Pismo Beach is Classic California

A woman with blonde hair and wearing black.

With a relaxed atmosphere and friendly attitude, Pismo Beach reminds us of California beach communities from long ago. Here, you’ll find a great place to relax and have fun. Pismo Beach offers small-town charm, great weather, clean air, friendly locals and miles and miles of uncrowded beaches. This nostalgic beach town is a great place to be. And while the unspoiled beaches are certainly a draw, Pismo Beach is much more than just the beach. Close by are award-winning wineries producing incredible wines, fabulous restaurants offering cuisine to suit all palates, and luxurious resorts with all the amenities. Pismo Beach is wonderfully eclectic. Spend some time in Pismo Beach, and we know you will return time after time.

Wine & Waves
With its mild, Mediterranean climate and fertile soil, San Luis Obispo County boasts near-perfect growing conditions for wine grapes, and is home to more than 200 wineries. Some have earned prestigious awards and international acclaim. Many wineries near Pismo Beach offer tastings and tours, and host festive events during the Roll Out the Barrels event in spring and the Harvest Celebration in the fall. Check out www.classiccalifornia.com for a complete schedule of winery events in and near Pismo Beach.

Ocean and Inland Adventure
23 miles of uncrowded shoreline ensure that whatever water activity you’re looking for, you’ll find it in Pismo Beach. Consider kayaking, kite surfing, boogie boarding, skim boarding, sport fishing, taking a ride in a cruiser, ATV, or in a biplane along the shore, exploring the tide pools or just indulging in a little rest and relaxation on the beach.

The finest, most extensive coastal dunes remaining in California, the Oceano Sand Dunes, are an amazing site, with 1,500 acres designated for beach and dune driving. Hummer tours of the dunes are available, and for individual fun, you can also rent and drive ATVs, dune buggies and beach cycles.

The warm sand of Pismo Beach is perfect for building sandcastles, playing Frisbee, flying kites and taking romantic walks. Pismo’s water temperatures range between about 51°F to 58°F, so wetsuits are recommended. Several surf shops near the ocean offer wetsuit rentals.

20 minutes south of Pismo Beach, off Highway 1, the Oso Flaco Lake Natural Area offers wildlife viewing along an easy one-mile level boardwalk that passes over the freshwater lake through wildflowers, dunes paintbrush and coastal scrub to a windswept beach.

For golfers, Blacklake Golf Resort and the Avila Beach Golf Resort are within a 10-minute drive. Pismo Beach even has its own nine-hole executive course at Pismo State Park.

Weather
Pismo Beach enjoys typical Central California coastal weather conditions. Summer months (June-Sept.) are characterized by early-morning fog and overcast skies, which usually burn off by mid-day.

Fall (Sept.-Nov.) is most enjoyable. Sunny skies, warm temperatures
and calm winds predominate most days. Winter (Dec.-Feb.) brings conditions much like fall but with occasional brief rain showers and cool temperatures. Spring (March-May) is marked by infrequent showers, sunny skies, and mild to warm temperatures.

Directions
This nostalgic beach town is located on California’s Central Coast, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, along Pacific Coast Highway 1 and Highway 101.
