Day 8

Sacramento + home

8 am breakfast Pilot House Restaurant on-board Delta King
Very lovely in the dining room this morning – clear river and city views, pleasant temperature. Our choice: go big – crab cake eggs benedict – 2 poached eggs with pacific dungeness crab and maryland blue crab cakes on a toasted english muffin topped with hollandaise sauce and herbed country potatoes. We are good for the day.

9 am explore further Old Sacramento Historic District
Walking off our breakfast, we sightsee/stroll through the historic, scenic waterfront area, heading for the Tower Bridge to cross to the other side of the Sacramento River.

10 am find and walk through The Barn
Heading south on Front St, we turn right and cross over, walking through the Capitol Mall/Tower Bridge Gateway. We turn left onto Riverfront St. and there it is. This new, wriggly, very unusual wood structure is a meeting place, events venue, piece of public art and park all wrapped into one. Very cool – sure to become an area icon! It hosts a weekly event series called Friday nights on the Barn that features food trucks and music. About 1 mile walk from the Delta King.

noon checkout hotel and drive home
We enjoy the scenery on the walk back, then check out. Nice leisurely 2 1/2 hour car ride home.

3 pm home
Finally! With great memories.
Unpack/laundry/regroup.
